Long bio.
Denisha Gingles is a passionate, liberation-centered counselor and Board Certified Behavior Analyst (BCBA) dedicated to igniting collective and individual freedom of underserved populations, with an intentional lens on Black lives. She is the owner of two behavioral health organizations, a professor, and social justice activist. As a pioneer in her field, she has mastered the creation of sacred spaces that promote wellness, self-awareness, and personal growth toward valued living.
As a leading researcher and futuristic thought-leader, Denisha has synthesized social justice pedagogy with contemporary behavioral science. Her practice, Whole Self Liberation Counseling, is a full-service agency that focuses on reversing self-defeating thoughts and community-hindering behaviors while evoking liberatory action that counters internalized racism and anti-Blackness conditioning. The practice supports individuals and their families through an evidence-based, trauma informed, applied behavior analysis therapy to help improve the lives of the entire family and community.
Denisha’s expertise has been included in various publications, including two chapters in A Scientific Framework for Compassion and Social Justice (2021). She is an Affiliate Liaison for Black Applied Behavior Analysts (BABA), which seeks to promote, educate, empower, and disseminate ABA within the Black community. She also serves as a Guest Editor for a prominent, peer-reviewed scholarly journal.
Denisha is the Co-Creator of Beautiful Humans Change, a platform committed to dismantling systems of oppression, complete with a podcast, blog, resources, trainings, and much more. Meanwhile, her personal podcast, Whole Black Woman, provides powerful messages to inspire Black women to reconnect with their wholeness.
Outside of her professional endeavors, Denisha is wholly committed to social justice activism, and brings rich experience in community organizing, focusing her efforts on criminal justice reform, education reform, and racial justice. She is a member of Gathering for Justice and Justice League NYC. She worked on Colin Kaepernick’s “Take a Knee” Campaign, Justice for Meek Mill, and has helped organize local, national, and international marches, such as the Women’s March. Notably, Denisha has planned and facilitated countless anti-oppression workshops as well as multiple large scale social justice conferences.
Denisha’s work takes a radically compassionate approach to igniting the behavior change needed to produce systemic social change in support of justice and equity. She is a highly sought international keynote speaker who has directly shaped personal, local, and organizational change, concurrently instilling responsibility and optimism for a better tomorrow.
